Description

The Oneida Community was a religiously based, socialist group, located in Oneida, New York, of about 250 people dedicated to living as one family and to sharing all property, work, and love. Lead by John Humphrey Noyes, the community flourished from 1848-1880. The OC were also prolific publishers and promoters of socialist and reform causes. Among their unique doctrines and practices were complex marriage and stirpiculture.
