Shaker Postcard
This is a digital collection of 425+ postcards of people and scenes from various American Shaker communities.
This collection consists of 865 postcards and displays both the front and back of every postcard. A description of the contents of each card is also provided and all printed and handwritten text has been transcribed.
This collection includes scenes from Canterbury, New Hampshire, Mt. Lebanon (New Hampshire), Alfred, Maine and Sabbathday Lake, Maine, but The library also holds Shaker postcards from Enfield (New Hampshire), Hancock (Massachusetts), Shirley (Massachusetts), and Watervliet (New York).
History of the Shaker Collection at the Hamilton College Library
Metadata for the Canterbury, New Hampshire cards was provided by Dr. Walter A. Brumm and enhanced by library staff.
Digitization of this collection was done in-house on flatbed scanners at 600 dpi, 24-bit color and saved as uncompressed TIF images. Images were converted to JPEG2000 for high-quality Web delivery and long-term preservation.
