Stannard Letter
This is a collection of letters written by Dwight W. Stannard, corporal in the 97th New York State Volunteer Infantry Regiment (Third Oneida; Boonville Regiment; Conkling Rifles).
This collection includes digitized images and transcriptions of 30 hand-written letters. The images are accessed through links within the transcriptions.
Dwight W. Stannard was born about 1845 in Boonville, Oneida county, New York, the son of Calvin W. B. Stannard and Sarah Stannard of Boonville, Oneida County, New York. Dwight and his wife Alma (Alma C. Simmons) lived in Forestport, Oneida county, New York. When he returned from his military they lived in Forestport and then Boonville. They had children named Charles, Elsie (Bessie), Ettie, Cora, Hattie, and Ezra. Alma C. Simmons to whom most of the letters in this collection were written.
The 97th NYSV Infantry Regiment mustered in on February 18, 1862 at Oneida county, New York in which Hamilton College is located.
These letters were digitized by Backstage Library Works of Orem, Utah at 600 dpi, saved as uncompressed TIFF. They delivered to Hamilton College the TIFF images and JPEG derivatives.
Transcriptions of the letters were made by Backstage Library Works who also encoded them as TEI P5 files.
